About:
Katherine Spence (b. 1992, raised in London) is an artist and art-department professional based in South East London. Trained in fine art painting, she works across photography, props and set decoration for film and television. Her portfolio spans personal projects and film/TV roles (2017–2025) in set-dressing, props and visual storytelling. Her fine art work has also been exhibited at venues including Cecconi’s Oxfordshire, Soho House and The Lido Margate.
Study:
Bachelor’s Degree: Chelsea College of Arts in Fine Art.
Foundation: Camberwell College of Arts - Illustration.
Artist Statement:
My work moves between figuration and abstraction, exploring the space between the body, material, and the subconscious image. I’m interested in transformation, in how gesture, light, and texture can shift something familiar into something uncertain or otherworldly.
Across painting, sculpture, and photography, I try to capture a sense of physicality and presence. The forms I make often hover between the living and the inanimate human but dreamlike, visceral but delicate.
I’m drawn to muted tones and tactile materials that suggest memory, vulnerability, and metamorphosis. Even when I’m working with photography or performance, I approach it with a painterly sensibility always looking for balance, surface, and a feeling that sits somewhere between movement and stillness.
